Smarter Lives 2019

On 28 May 2019 the SMARTER LIVES Conference took place in Bolzano, South Tyrol, Italy – for the first time it was co-located with the Usability Day (uDay).

The aim of the practical forum is to create awareness of the needs of an aging and long-living society and to present, develop and critically reflect on solutions for coping with the challenges of demographic changes. Interesting talks were held in the framework of Active and Assisted Living by representatives of science and industry. Participating entrepreneurs had the chance to present their products and solutions during  lunch break.

In the afternoon, the supervisor of our research unit Daniela Krainer held a talk titled “Practical Realization of an integrated Telemonitoring and Health Care Center Model – Interim results within the Pilot Region Smart VitAALity”. She highlighted the theory-based, participatory process development and implementation of the Health Care Center Model and presented first results from the 9-month evaluation phase involving over 100 households in Carinthia.

Further national and international AAL pilot regions were presented in the plenary session and in the science track. Methodological approaches and results have been presented, and diverse challenges and potentials were discussed in a joint discourse. Among others, first results of the i-EvAALution project were presented.

University Ljubljana, a project partner in the COOP4HEALTHCARE project, is also a partner in i-EvAALution and plans to evaluate health and pilot projects with integrated solutions for long-term care in a COOP4HEALTHCARE strategic pilot project. Independent and data driven evaluation of Slovenian pilot projects are provided to the Ministry of Health to better shape Slovenia’s long term care system.

Henry Ford: “Coming together is a beginning. Staying together is progress. And working together is success.”

We would like to thank the University of Innsbruck, the co-organizer Eurac Research and the FH Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences in cooperation with the IBH Living Lab AAL for the successful and fruitful event.

The slide deck of Daniela Krainer’s presentation is availabe here.
