More than 100 researchers and over 40 project partners and companies visited this year’s Researcher’s Day at the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences on May 14, 2019 in Villach. Under the slogan “Interdisciplinarity – Interprofessionality”, there were a lot of opportunities for scientific discourse and concrete ways of working together.<\/p>

\u201cThe measure of greatness in a scientific idea is the extent to which it stimulates thought and opens up new lines of research.\u201d \u2015 Paul Dirac<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>

In accordance with this guiding motto, Prof. dr. Michael Gysi, CEO Careum \/ Switzerland, gave a keynote addressing “Interprofessional Cooperation”, mentioning the importance of physical proximity and personal exchange during the implementation of research projects. Michael Gysi holds a doctorate in environmental science and continued his business education with an Executive MBA. Today, he is the CEO of Agroscope, and manages 1,200 employees at 7 primary and 20 secondary locations. In 2012, Michael Gysi was appointed titular professor at the University of Bern.<\/p>

16 research groups and research centers presented their focus areas to the audience during 3-minute pitches, so did also Daniela Krainer, the supervisor of our research group Active and Assisted Living. Afterwards there was the opportunity to ask technical questions or to discuss possible cooperations in the foyer at the respective booths.<\/p>

Our project partner P.SYS showed the Detect & Connect project and their newest invention, the bed sensor module. Here, 4 sensor units are placed under the bed feet and activities are measured and processed via a base station during sleep\/rest periods. The Carinthia University of Applied Sciences was involved in the evaluation of the bed sensor module regarding sleep behavior and sleep parameters. A literature research on sleep and sleep quality was also presented. <\/p>
