The document was developed within the framework of the international ForestConnect project under the Interreg Danube Region Programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Strategic Action Plan provides practical guidance for improving ecological corridors and habitats for large carnivores in the Carpathian, Dinaric, and Balkan mountain regions. It responds to growing challenges posed by climate change, habitat fragmentation, infrastructure development, and increasing human-wildlife interactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>17 Concrete Actions for Climate-Resilient Protected Area Management<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The publication outlines 17 strategic actions across four thematic fields:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Infrastructure and Ecological Connectivity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Habitat Protection and Management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Management Aspects for Climate Resilience<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Human-Wildlife Coexistence<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The measures include the design of wildlife-friendly infrastructure, restoration of disturbed forests, enhancement of structural forest diversity, adaptive grazing management, integrated bark beetle response, and digital monitoring systems for early warning of human-wildlife conflicts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The plan specifically addresses the needs of large carnivores such as wolves, lynx, and bears, whose long-term survival depends on connected, climate-resilient habitats across national borders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Science-Based and Transnational<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Strategic Action Plan was developed by experts of Carinthia University of Applied Sciences &#8211; UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Management of Conservation Areas, in close cooperation with partners from seven Eastern and Southeastern European countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By combining scientific research, field experience, and stakeholder engagement, the publication offers adaptable and transferable solutions for protected area managers, forestry authorities, landowners, and conservation practitioners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Contribution to Climate Adaptation in the Danube Region<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Climate change is altering forest ecosystems, species distribution, and wildlife movement patterns. The Strategic Action Plan integrates climate adaptation into biodiversity conservation and forest management practices, contributing to long-term ecological stability in the Danube region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ForestConnect project aims to strengthen cross-border cooperation, develop innovative monitoring tools, and enhance climate-smart forest
