About SCORE
Project SCORE addresses the construction sector’s substantial contribution to global CO₂ emissions by developing high-performance precast modular structural elements that reduce environmental impact through optimized material use, extended service life, and improved efficiency of high-performance concrete materials. It leverages Ultra-High-Performance Concrete (UHPC) and Fibre/Textile Reinforced Concrete (F/TRC) technologies for both new construction and retrofit applications.
For new buildings, stay-in-place precast panels will function as permanent formwork and work compositely with cast-in-place concrete. This enables efficient material distribution, using lower-grade or lightly bound fillers in non-structural zones and high-performance concrete only where needed. This approach reduces overall material consumption, lowers CO₂ emissions, improves durability, and enhances resistance to environmental degradation. It can also reduce construction time and provide early-stage load-bearing capacity during curing.
For existing structures, modular precast elements will be used as retrofit solutions to extend service life without demolition. These elements will be externally anchored and connected through specially designed joints to ensure structural continuity. Benefits include reduced demolition waste, lower embodied carbon, improved structural performance at serviceability levels, and potential for future upgrades or replacement of individual components. The system also enables faster installation and early load activation, offering additional economic advantages.
