On October 24, 2024<\/strong>, the Aviation Forum Austria<\/strong> took place in Vienna, organised by the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK) in collaboration with the FFG, Aviation Industry Austria and the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber. The annual platform provided decision-makers, experts and industry representatives with a stage to discuss current developments in aviation<\/strong>, with a focus on sustainability, artificial intelligence and the future of airports. <\/span><\/p>

As part of the forum, another survey<\/strong> was conducted as part of the SORA4UAM project, this time with an expert audience from the aviation industry<\/strong>. As at previous events, participants were asked to rate the most important areas of application for drones<\/strong>. Here, too, it became clear that areas with social benefits \u2013 such as the environment, research and safety \u2013 were preferred<\/strong>. In contrast, logistics-related scenarios such as transport between warehouses or the last mile scored significantly lower. The results underscore that also among experts, the focus is on meaningful, public welfare-oriented technology development<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

When comparing all surveys conducted within the SORA4UAM project scope, limited support for passenger drones is evident, and cargo applications are seen as valuable primarily when serving environmental or medical purposes. This strongly suggests that UAM development should first target domains of public benefit rather than focusing solely on commercial passenger transport or urban delivery services. These high-impact areas may not be the most profitable in the short term compared to drone taxis or last-mile logistics. However, public acceptance is a crucial prerequisite for the successful integration of UAM into everyday life. To gain trust and ensure long-term viability, technological development and market strategies must align with societal values and priorities. Ultimately, putting public benefit first isn\u2019t just the right ethical choice \u2014 it\u2019s a necessary step toward building a sustainable and widely accepted UAM ecosystem. <\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
