About us
The „RF Systems and Circuits Lab” at the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences is researching Radio Frequency (RF) related fields ranging from RF integrated circuit design to RF system modeling as well as development of application driven RF embedded systems.
The „RF Systems and Circuits Lab” is associated to different study programs within the faculty of Engineering & IT. Therefore, it enables close research cooperation and know‐how exchange between different RF related fields of expertise.
The research for the 3 sub‐fields of the “RF Systems and Circuits Lab” is supported by the Engineering & IT study programs “Integrated Systems and Circuits Design”, “Systems Design”, “Health Care IT” and “Communication Engineering”.
RF Integrated Circuits (IC‐Lab)
IC design of RF building blocks like LNA, mixer, power amplifier and modern sampling receivers. Modeling and design of transceiver frontends in System‐in‐package (SiP) technologies and coexistence problems like self‐interference cancelation.
RF System Integration (SI‐Lab)
Modeling, simulation and verification of RF systems on printed circuit board (PCB) level. Important fields of expertise are electromagnetic field simulations using FEM solvers from Ansys (HFSS, Q3D) or Keysight (ADS) and RF measurements.
RF Applications
RFID and tracking for sports telematics, wireless sensors for active and assisted living (AAL), and smart wireless sensor networks
Goals
The „RF Systems and Circuits Lab” is associated to different study programs within the faculty of Engineering & IT. It enables close research cooperation and know‐how exchange between different RF related fields of expertise, which is a requirement to handle complex “multi‐disciplinary” RF related research and development tasks.
A main focus of the „RF Systems and Circuits Lab” is to be a strong and attractive R&D partner for local industry as well as a competent research partner for national and international cooperative research projects.
Projects
The following projects are examples of research and development activities within the Lab:
RFFE LAB:
Research Lab for RF Frontend Circuits and Systems
ANAGEN:
Development of an agile-analog design methodology where the IC analog engineering knowledge will be captured in executable generators
IDEATION (IC‐Lab):
Basic research on full‐duplex high‐speed on‐chip data communication.
