Since autumn 2018 SIENA has been participating in the COST Action HARMONIOUS (“Harmonization of UAS techniques for agricultural and natural ecosystems monitoring”). COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) is a European funding organisation for the development of research and innovation networks. In this research and innovation network, scientists from all over Europe work on the harmonisation of drones as a promising innovative technology in the field of environmental monitoring.
From 6 to 8 November 2019 the COST Harmonious Workshop on “Standardization of procedures for the use of drones for environmental monitoring” took place. The SIENA research group also participated in this workshop and reported on the results of their research. Gernot Paulus presented a concept, design and prototype of the spatial data infrastructure for drone based environmental monitoring. Dariia Strelnikova explained her proposals for the standardization of data acquisition for drone based flow analysis.
More than one hundred scientists from 36 countries took
in the HARMONIOUS campaign. Gernot Paul and Dariia
Strelnikova are national representatives on the management committee,
to two working groups – WG2 “Vegetation” and WG4 “River monitoring”. More information about the workshop is available under this link.
