As part of the Interreg project, the University of Udine took part in the international conference “The Ninth International Conference on Structural Engineering, Mechanics and Computation (SEMC 2025)”, which was held in Cape Town, South Africa.
The event brought together professors and engineers from different countries around the world to discuss important research topics in the field of civil engineering.
The university’s contribution consisted of the presentation of a paper entitled “Comparison of the CO₂ footprint between reinforced concrete and CLT buildings”, which compared the carbon dioxide emissions of reinforced concrete structures and X-LAM structures (CLT). The study highlighted the effectiveness of using environmentally friendly materials such as wood for the construction of buildings as an alternative to concrete: in this way, it is possible to achieve a CO₂ emission value for the components that is below zero.
The importance of this participation was to promote the topic of sustainability by presenting some of the research results achieved within the SITAR project.
