SITAR project partner Alpacem has been nominated for the Innovation and Research Award of the State of Carinthia 2026

The Interreg project SITAR is pleased to announce that Alpacem Zement Austria GmbH, one of its project partners, has been nominated for the “Innovation and Research Award of the Province of Carinthia 2026“.

The nomination recognizes Alpacem’s work in the area of CO₂-reduced cement production, which was developed as part of the company’s long-term “Compass to zero CO₂” initiative. The project focuses on reducing the carbon footprint of cement while maintaining the high performance, durability and reliability required for construction and infrastructure applications.

The nominated cement type, Cem II/C, was developed in targeted research and test phases and has already been successfully used under real conditions in both building construction and infrastructure projects. The innovation shows how targeted material development and the optimization of production processes can contribute to a significant reduction in emissions in one of the most CO₂-intensive areas of the construction industry.

As part of the dissemination and knowledge transfer activities of the SITAR project, Alpacem will also present its work during the SITAR Summer School 2026 and provide participants with direct insights into sustainable cement production and current challenges in the industry.
