The European Union’s new drone strategy emphasises the key role of drones for sustainable and innovative air mobility in urban areas. Future drone applications in urban air mobility (UAM) include flying taxis as well as the transport of goods and are aimed at implementing the EU strategy for sustainable and intelligent mobility. In this context, the digitalisation and automation of the risk assessment of UAM missions is a critical success factor.

SORA4UAM will provide a comprehensive practical framework for deriving additional spatial information to support ‘next-gen’ SORA in Austria. The expected results of SORA4UAM have the great potential to serve as a national ‘best practice’ example for the sustainable realisation and implementation of ‘Next Gen’ SORA and in the context of U-Space and thus make an important contribution to the progressive increase in the safety of drone operations in Austria and the EU.
